Virtual Tour Welcome to our magnificent spiritual homeAn impressive yet intimate environment for worship “Sherith Israel is both spacious and grand like the pioneer West that birthed the congregation,” comments senior Rabbi Larry Raphael. “Our spirits can soar to the heavenly dome, yet the sanctuary’s major motif of arches, roundness and circles comforts and soothes. The combination of intimacy and awe helps us all encounter and embrace the transcendent.” Take a virtual tour Join us as we climb the wide marble stairs that flank the first-floor entry to the second-floor sanctuary foyer, where we get a hint of the stenciled frescoes and opalescent stained glass windows to come. As we enter the sanctuary, our eyes are drawn upwards, past the Honduran mahogany ark and bimah, past the frescoed walls and the Murray Harris organ’s great pipes, to Sherith Israel’s distinctive dome, rising more than 120 feet above street level. If it’s afternoon, our gaze will be pulled to the west window, where Moses and the twelve tribes stand before a Sinai that looks remarkably like Yosemite. Even later in the afternoon, especially in summer and early fall, the sun ignites the window depicting the story of the burning bush, making the sanctuary glow.
