Mitzvah Day Bringing Torah to lifeTikkun olam (repairing the world) defines the essence of Mitzvah Day. Held twice each year, Mitzvah Day gives students and their families the opportunity to experience Jewish learning through action, which teaches the values essential to our heritage.Mitzvah Day projects are designed to be age appropriate. Recently, kindergarten students planted at a local park, 2nd and 3rd graders tended the garden at our Hills of Eternity cemetery, 4th and 5th graders visited patients at Laguna Honda Hospital, 6th graders worked at the food bank, and 7th and 8th graders cleaned streets in the Richmond District. On Mitzvah Day parents and children work together so children can see that tikkun olam is a way of life, not just something that happens in school. Students learn that giving of themselves is the greatest gift and come to understand that every day is Mitzvah Day.The success of Mitzvah Day depends on dedicated volunteers. Although Mitzvah Day is coordinated through the Religious School, every congregant of any age is welcome.
