Rabbi Martin S. Weiner

Rabbi Emeritus, Martin S. Weiner was born in San Francisco and educated in the San Francisco Unified School District. He graduated from George Washington High School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley.

Rabbi Weiner received his rabbinical training at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati. In 1964, he was ordained from the College-Institute, where he earned a Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters with honors. Following his ordination, Rabbi Weiner served as assistant, associate and co-rabbi at Temple Oheb Shalom of Baltimore, Maryland. He did extensive graduate work in the field of history at George Washington University in Washington, DC. He joined Congregation Sherith Israel as our Senior Rabbi in 1972.

Rabbi Weiner has served as President of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, Reform Judaism's professional rabbinical association. He has served on the boards of the Jewish Community Federation, Jewish Family and Children's Services, the National Commission on Reform Jewish Education, and the San Francisco Human Rights Commission. Rabbi Weiner has also served as president of the Pacific Association of Reform Rabbis and chair of the San Francisco Interfaith Council.
