Preparing for the THE HIGH HOLY DAYS

CHALLENGE AND CHANGE
A High Holy Day preparation workshop

Thursday, Sept 2, 7–8:30 pm
Explore key texts and themes of the High Holy Day season. Rabbis Larry Raphael and Julie Saxe-Taller will help you find new doorways into your worship experience and learn a Jewish approach to personal change. This workshop will include texts and discussion materials from the Reform movement’s current process of creating a new High Holy Day mahzor (prayerbook).

S’LICHOT SERVICE
Saturday, Sept 4, 8 pm
The Saturday night before Rosh Hashanah has for centuries been a special time of preparation for the High Holy Days. We will begin with dessert and socializing. Then, a dramatic presentation will lead to reflection and a discussion of the High Holy Day themes of forgiveness and change.
We’ll conclude with a beautiful ritual in which we change the Torah covers from those used during the year to the white covers of the holiday season. Everyone will have the opportunity to hold a Torah scroll and focus on hopes for the coming year.
