Friday Evenings Shabbat offers a time for reflection and joy At Congregation Sherith Israel, Shabbat takes us away from our hectic week to calm and reenergize our souls. Services enrich us with the prayers and poetry of our updated Reform siddur, Mishkan T’filah. Music adds a special dimension to the spirituality of Congregation Sherith Israel. Led by Cantor Rita Glassman, our voices join in songs and melodies from across Jewish sources, ancient and contemporary. We offer a variety of Shabbat services, as well as two types of High Holy Day services. One thing unites them all: our ruach (spirit) reaches not only upward but outward towards each other. We worship communally and individually, finding and praising God in the ways most fulfilling to all of us and each of us. Friday evening services offer a variety of worship experiences. Each Friday-night service of the month provides a different experience. We base all, of course, on the core prayers found in every synagogue worldwide. And each offers both a warm welcome and the opportunity to get to know each other at an inviting oneg.

You can honor or remember a special person or simcha (happy occasion) by sponsoring an oneg on one or more Friday evenings or Saturday mornings. Or you can contribute to our Oneg Fund, which provides food every Shabbat. Many thanks to our generous donor who wishes to remain anonymous for establishing our Oneg Fund and creating a welcoming tradition at Sherith Israel. |
