Saturday Mornings We come together for study and worship The spirit of Friday night extends to Saturday as Shabbat provides a holy time for learning and worship, including reading from one of our five Torah scrolls and meaningful b’nai mitzvah ceremonies.Torah Study 9:15 – 10:15 am Every Saturday morning of the year — other than Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur if they fall on Shabbat — several dozen congregants and guests gather to study the weekly parashah (portion). Led by Rabbi Larry Raphael, Rabbi Julie Saxe-Taller or a congregant, the hour offers learning from traditional and contemporary sources as well as lively discussion — we are not shy about expressing our opinions. We serve bagels and lox, along with coffee and tea (a $6 donation every two months is requested). Torah Study at Sherith Israel has become a “can’t miss” tradition. Saturday morning services 10:30 am – noon A highlight of Saturday morning services at Sherith Israel is the light streaming through our magnificent stained-glass windows while the sounds of prayer and song ascend upward. Intimate and informal, our Saturday-morning services follow the basic structure of the Mishkan T’filah prayerbook. Cantor Rita Glassman or congregants chant from the Torah. B’nai mitzvah may extend services an additional thirty to forty-five minutes. Information: Gabi Moskowitz, 415.346.1720, X24, or gmoskowitz@sherithisrael.org. Live It Up Shabbat Come to all or part of our monthly family Shabbat morning events for little ones, their parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles. Enjoy a warm, informal yet tradition-based way to honor Shabbat and create a period of peace in your hectic week. Take part in activities from yoga and meditation to Torah study, Tot Shabbat services, Kiddush and schmoozing.
