Congregation Sherith Israel has its roots in tradition while being on the leading edge of American Judaism. With an awe-inspiring sanctuary, Sherith Israel is a historic landmark synagogue with leadership who innovate and inspire generations of congregants, guests and the greater Jewish community with a variety of services and programs. Founded in the California Gold Rush, we have been part of San Francisco every step of the way, marrying the newest innovations to thousands of years of Jewish history. A Reform synagogue with approximately 500 families, the leaders and staff are constantly working to create a relevant community for meaningful Jewish exploration. 

Position Summary: 

Sherith Israel is seeking a creative, ethical, organized, and innovative self-starter who is committed
to early childhood and youth education, communicates clearly, and thrives in a fast-paced
environment with many interruptions and impromptu problem solving scenarios. Ideally, the person
would have the 12 hours of ECE credits. This position supports the religious school (Studio @
Sherith Israel), B Mitzvah program, and preschool (Sherith Israel Preschool), and therefore reports
to both the Director of Education/Asst. Rabbi and the Preschool Director.

Responsibilities
● Serves as a point of contact for current and potential families via phone, email and in
person.
● Assist directors with the application and enrollment process.
● Create a system to organize and track parent inquiries and student admissions.
● Maintains records for students in the synagogue database (Shulcloud) including enrollment,
attendance, billing and family information.
● Helps create and manage school calendars, tuition rate sheets, and other informational
materials.
● Creates documents, website content, newsletters, social media and other content for both
programs.
● Tracks staff time for both programs and ensures accurate timesheets.
● Support field trip and event planning, including coordinating transportation.
● Supports lay leaders with select administrative tasks that relate to students.
● Provides back-up coverage in the Preschool as needed to be in ratio, such as walking to the
park or teacher breaks.
● Works closely with clergy to understand the vision of synagogue and program in order to
successfully support the B Mitzvah program.
● Maintains individual B mitzvah timeline and records, ensuring a streamlined process for
students, families and clergy. Keeps families informed of important milestones, and connects
them with clergy and other staff as appropriate.
● Maintain Studio, Preschool, and B Mitzvah internal calendar. Remind staff, program
directors, parents, and staff of any upcoming events ensuring smooth workflow.
● In conjunction with the Facilities/Rental Manager, coordinate use of space and materials
within the school wing.
● Maintain files for community care licensing including student, teacher and school records
including immunization, continuing education and safety records.
● Coordinates snacks/food for Studio and dinner for monthly Tot Shabbat.
● Oversee office supplies, teacher materials, groceries, and janitorial supplies.
● Track purchases, report and analyze spending within budgetary guidelines. Code invoices
and credit card expenses.
● Monitor and maintain inventory and equipment.


Qualifications:
● Strong commitment to early childhood and youth education.
● Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Adobe Acrobat, and social media
platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
● Ability to learn Shulcloud, BrightWheel and other platforms (prior experience is a plus).
● 12 units in ECE and at least 1 year of classroom experience (can be an internship
experience)
● Desire to work with children.


Requirements
● Pass a background check (work involves direct contact with children).
● TB test and TDAP vaccine


FTE: Full-time. Sunday mornings, Tuesday and Friday evenings required when Studio is in session.
Other occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
