Pursuing Justice Against the Law: Jewish Perspectives on Civil Disobedience

Please join us for our Annual Legal Shabbat program, when we address an issue at the intersection of Judaism and Law, in connection with the Torah portion of Yitro. We will welcome our guests from St. Paul of the Shipwreck Church over dinner. 

Rabbi Michael Rothbaum has been extensively involved with faith-based social justice organizations, such as T’ruah: Rabbis For Human Rights (North America), and currently serves as Bay Area Co-Chair for Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice. He has addressed groups as varied as Moishe House, Jewish Community Relations Council, East Bay Housing Organizations, and Nuns on the Bus. He has appeared in front of audiences at the US Senate and House of Representatives, Oakland City Council, and the New York State Democratic Party. In 2012 he joined a rabbinic delegation to Ghana, sponsored by American Jewish World Service. His writing has been included in the Forward, Tikkun, the Huffington Post, Zeek, and the anthology Peace, Justice, and Jews: Reclaiming Our Tradition.

Dinner: $18/adults; $12 for children 6-13; free for children 5 and under. Dessert is sponsored by the Souza family.
