Since its founding in San Francisco in 1850, Jewish Family and Children’s Services (JFCS) has been our community’s safety net. With services for people at all ages and stages of life, JFCS annually serves more than 120,000 children, seniors, and families. Barbara Farber, Director of Development and Planned Giving, and Michelle Dowds, Manager of Business Development for JFCS’ Seniors At Home, will present an overview of JFCS’ comprehensive services, particularly services for seniors. Barbara will also speak to how JFCS’ Holocaust Center is responding in these difficult times of rising antisemitism and share updates on plans for a new, state-of-the-art Holocaust Center building as well as other services provided by JFCS.

Barbara Farber has worked to build a strong Jewish community throughout her adult life. As a lay leader for three decades, Barbara Farber held leadership roles on the boards of local, regional, and national Jewish organizations. After serving on the Board of Directors of Jewish Family and Children’s Services (JFCS) for ten years, she joined the Development Department in 2009 to lead the endowment campaign. Soon, Barbara became head of all the agency’s giving programs and donor services. As Director of Development and Planned Giving, she partners with lay leaders and a professional staff to ensure JFCS has the financial resources to serve our community’s needs today and for generations to come.

Michelle Dowds, MSW, is the Manager of Business Development for Seniors At Home, a division of Jewish Family and Children’s Services (JFCS). She holds a master’s in social work and has more than ten years of experience in care management, medical social work, healthcare, business development, and program planning. Michelle currently serves on the steering committee for the Aging Action Initiative and as co-chair for the San Francisco and Marin Units, Region A-CA, for the National Association of Social Workers.
