The Joy of Yiddish Dance
This participatory presentation will explore the golden gems of the Hasidic and klezmer dance repertoire that are sure to lift your spirits and connect you to the joyous and soulful music of the  Ashkenazi Jews.  On the brink of being forgotten forever, Yiddish dance and music are now experiencing a remarkable renaissance. Along with the Yiddish dances of the freylekh, sher, joq and bulgar,  participants will see archival film footage, learn about the history of Yiddish dance and hear a few Hasidic dance tales.

Bruce Bierman has been interweaving the world of theater, dance and Jewish ritual performance for over 25 years.    He is currently artistic director of the New Yiddish Theater and recently directed  ‘Di Megilleh of Itzik Manger’ for the Jewish Music Festival.  Bruce was a leading performer and teaching artist with the internationally acclaimed Aman Folk Ensemble of Los Angeles bringing world dance and music throughout the states. He began specializing in Jewish dance  seeking out instruction from some of the best: Walter Zev Feldman, Steve Wientraub, Deborah Strauss, Felix Fibich and Michael Alpert. Bruce now is a leading presenter of  Jewish dance throughout California hoping to connect everyone to this vital dance that connects people hand by hand.
