NM Comunidades en Acción y de Fé (CAFé) would like to invite you to Encuentro en la Frontera, July 31- August 2 in Las Cruces, NM. Join us as we create an opportunity for PICO staff, clergy, and leaders to have an encounter with a community that is always being sacrificed and negotiated for the sake of policy and political gain. It’s never new when politicians seek to add funding for deportation forces like ICE and CBP, detention beds, the militarization of our border, and the building of a wall. 

Developing a strategy will allow us as PICO to use our collective power that allows us to play a stronger role in the 2018 federal budget that will put our families first and not for profit. Our goals during our time together in the borderlands: 

● use our collective power

● build momentum in key relationships, like the USCCB, to protect the most vulnerable

● develop a deep analysis at the intersectionality between mass incarceration & immigration

● follow the money to find out who profits off of brown & black bodies.

We will also be organizing a public solidarity action to support the Taborda family who has had their family torn apart and has had to flee into the safety of their Catholic Church (watch + share Jorge’s story here).

This event will give the opportunity for PICO staff, clergy, and leaders to encounter Jorge and his family. To help create the chance for PICO National Network to stand in solidarity with our brother Jorge as we file his stay of deportation to the ICE field office in El Paso, TX.
