11 am-3 pm: Building Singing Communities with Joey Weisenberg: Using concepts, actions and visions from his book Building Singing Communities, Joey Weisenberg discusses strategies for bringing people together to make music a lasting and joy-filled force in shul and Jewish life. Designed for leaders, visionaries and laypeople who want to transform the soundscape of their community, this workshop teaches by example techniques for facilitating closeness, setting up singing spaces, encouraging harmony, finding the groove, cultivating silence and more. Participants will have the chance to sing deeply and ask questions.
3-5 pm: Workshops with Bay Area cantors: The workshops will also feature afternoon sessions and programming with Cantor Toby Glaser and other Bay Area cantors. Come to explore how we can unlock our musical and spiritual potential together through song.

Combining virtuosic musicianship and powerful communal song, concerts with Joey Weisenberg are sonic journeys of harrowing emotion and spiritual uplift. This musical gathering will feature soul-igniting melodies, masterful improvisations, collective harmonies and acoustic meditations. Joey has long occupied the nexus point between the old and the new, and he is known for reaching into the heart of the nigun, the wordless Jewish spiritual melody, and synthesizing it with the American soundscape and the passion of the blues bars he grew up playing in. As the Hadar Institute’s longtime musician-in-residence and as the founder of Hadar’s Rising Song Institute, where he teaches master classes in Jewish song and produces albums for Rising Song Records, Joey’s prolific output of melodies has resounded throughout the Jewish world and beyond. Come immerse in the powerful collective practice of sound and silence!
In-person only events.
