7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Join us to learn about the incarceration of Japanese Americans in 1942. Film screening followed by discussion with filmmaker Jon Osaki and Rabbi Jessica Zimmerman Graf. Alternative Facts is a one-hour documentary feature film about the false information and political influences which led to the World War II incarceration of Japanese Americans. Discussion to follow about shared vocabulary and the experiences of our two communities. In person only event. All are welcome.  Registration encouraged, but not required for entry.

Presented in partnership with Jewish Community Relations Council.

Alternative Facts sheds light on the people and politics that influenced the signing of the infamous Executive Order 9066, which authorized the mass incarceration of nearly 120,000 Japanese Americans.  The film will expose the lies used to justify the decision and the cover-up that went all the way to the United States Supreme Court. Alternative Facts will also examine the parallels to the current climate of fear, attitudes towards immigrant communities, and similar attempts to abuse the powers of the government.

Jon Osaki is an emerging filmmaker who has directed and produced promotional, educational, narrative, and documentary films. His initial interest in film grew from his desire to share the stories of the Japanese Community Youth Council, where he has served as Executive Director since 1996.

Sorry, Registration has ended.
