Volunteer reading tutors are needed more than ever in public schools throughout the Bay Area. In just one hour each week, you can help a struggling young reader become more confident and successful.
Join the Jewish Coalition for Literacy (JCL) for this deeply meaningful Tikkun Olam opportunity. For more information, contact Nieema Galloway at ngalloway@jcrc.org
A Bit of Background About JCL:
JCL recruits, trains, and provides ongoing support to volunteer tutors who help struggling young readers become confident readers excited about books and prepared for lifelong learning.
Following an initial, two-hour training, volunteers commit a minimum of one hour each week to one-to-one or small-group support. While we hope to return to in-person, school-based tutoring this year, we have also developed an online-tutoring model and new opportunities to tutor at child-and family-serving organizations. Thanks to the immense dedication of our tutors and our proven, relationship-centered model, JCL is uniquely positioned to help students learn and heal. For more information about the impactful work we have been doing in the Bay Area for over 20 years, please visit our website, www.jclread.org.

Irreverent, nostalgic and vulnerable, Until the Last Pickle, is a memoir replete with remembrances, anecdotes, and exactly 18 recipes. It’s an exploration of identity and belonging — at once, deeply personal and broadly relatable — told through the lens of one family’s “totally average” immigration journey.
