Notes for Tot Yontif and Family Services

If you are planning to attend Tot Yontif or Family Services on Rosh Hashanah:

All High Holiday registrants are invited to Tot Yontif on Rosh Hashanah eve (Friday, 9/18) at 5:30 pm, which will be geared toward little ones 5 and under and their families.  If you are planning to join us, please come prepared with...

• a mat, rug, blanket, sheet, towel, etc. to serve as a mini-sanctuary inside your home that we invite you to sit on and use as your prayer space;
• a flashlight (phones will do just fine) that you can switch on when we say, "Let there be light!" (you'll know when the time comes);
• a picture of a loved one who will not be present in person on Rosh Hashanah;
• a few apple slices and honey, or another sweet snack;
• and a shofar, toy or real, or any sort of noisemaker—parents, you might want to hang onto these until we're ready to use them :]

All are also welcome to our Family Service on Rosh Hashanah morning (Saturday, 9/19) at 9:30 am.  If you are planning to join us, please come prepared with…

• fruit juice, or another beverage of your choice, for each participant to toast with;
• a few apple slices and honey, or another sweet snack;
• and a shofar, toy or real, or any sort of noisemaker

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Who is leading this year?

A. The main service will be lead by Rabbi Graf and Cantor Glaser. Rabbi Phelps will be leading the family services. Smaller activities and services have a variety of leaders.

Q. Can I come and sit in the balcony and promise not to sing, talk or cough?

A. No, for your safety and ours, only staff is present during recording.

Q. You said recording, does that mean that services aren't live?

A. In order to keep our staff, clergy and musicians safe we are recording many parts in advance. This will allow us to conduct services from our historic sanctuary and keep everyone healthy.

Q. Are your main services on Zoom?

A. No.  We are releasing our main service videos on YouTube and Vimeo. Tot Yontif and Family Services will be on Zoom.

Q. Can I bring my friends, cousins, grandparents, etc? What does that cost?

A. Yes, services are open to all. We ask that all of our non-member guests consider making a donation to help Sherith Israel thrive now and in the years to come.

Q. Why am I being prompted to sign in to watch a video on YouTube? How can I watch the video?

A. Videos are scheduled to automatically become publicly viewable at the times listed.  Please reload the page after the this time to view new videos.

Q. What can I expect of our your high holiday services?

A. Our staff and clergy team have produced a series of five professionally-produced videos capturing remarkable musical performances, traditional prayers and insightful sermons.

Q. How can I get a prayerbook?

A. We are mailing an abbreviated prayerbook to all of our member households. We will also post the PDF version on this page. In addition you can purchase the full prayerbook we use directly from CCAR Press. There are various versions, including one for Kindle readers.

Q. Where can I get one of those great Jewish calendars that you have each year?

A. We have them in the office, we are in most days M-F, but call ahead if you are making a trip across town.

Q. I donated for a listing in the Memorial Book, where can I get a copy?

A. Memorial books will be mailed with the prayerbook in early September. We will also post a PDF version on this page.
