The 2005 Israeli film “Ushpizin” is groundbreaking on more than one count. A rare collaboration between secular and ultra-Orthodox Israelis and one of the first movies filmed in Jerusalem’s Mea Shearim with ultra-Orthodox actors, it is a warmhearted story of marriage among Hasidic Jews. The film focuses on a childless couple without the means to celebrate Sukkot. After much prayer they receive an unexpected gift of money … and then unexpected guests. Dinner $15 per person. RSVP to Nia Taylor, ntaylor@sherithisrael.org, or 415.346.1720, x17.
